Family Connections is a free, 12-week course coordinated by the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder that meets weekly for two hours to provide education, skills training, and support for people who are in a relationship with someone who has BPD.

Service provides telephone support, individual face to face counselling, general mental health support groups with other carers, peer support, education and training workshops, advocacy, and community awareness sessions. The carers support groups runs on a monthly basis for carers in the Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD on the 4th Tuesday of the month (5:30pm-7:30pm). This group has a focus on connection, peer support, understanding, and not doing it alone. The Transcultural Mental Health Centre runs carer support groups for families and carers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, who live or care for a family member or friend with a mental health problem, including severe depression, eating disorder, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and all childhood disorders. The support groups meet monthly in different suburbs across Sydney offering information, support, and educational activities to CALD carers. They also link carers to available services and support in the community.
Carers can be referred or self-refer directly to the bilingual group leader (via SMS) introducing themselves by name, details of who they are caring for (relation/mental health condition), their best contact number and requesting a phone call/SMS back to confirm attendance to a specific group.
Eligibility criteria: an unpaid carer or someone who provides care and support to a person living with a mental health condition.
