Inpatient Treatment and Day Programs (Private)

The Sydney Clinic # 

Private psychiatric hospital. Assessment and treatment for mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, ADD, PTSD, personality disorders, and postnatal depression. Inpatient, day-patient and outreach services provided. Includes drug and alcohol addiction treatment/detox. Patients must be 18 years or older. Inpatient includes CBT and DBT therapy orientation for approx 3 weeks. Day programs for those recently discharged from hospital include 5 week Introduction to DBT Program (Wednesday 9:30 to 2:30) followed by 6 month DBT program (Fridays 9:30-2:30pm). This includes a full DBT program (group therapy, individual, telephone call coaching, etc) and clinicians include psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, admin staff, psychologists).

Ramsay Clinic Lakeside

Offers in-patient treatment (generalist program for all mental health conditions including personality disorder and complex trauma) and outpatient treatment. Inpatient program is streamed for different needs and involves a plan/goal of admission and formulation of treatment plan based on group timetables suited for individual needs and can include DBT/ ACT/ CBT related topics/groups, mindfulness groups, creative groups individual therapy, psychiatrist assessment/reviews, discharge/future planning. Admission requires referral from GP or Psychiatrist and private health insurance (or payment in full without private health insurance). Outpatient Day programs include: 18-week DBT program, 20-week relapse prevention program for inpatients who have recently been discharged, 16-week Men’s Emotional Regulation program. DBT Day program requires an outside therapist, and all-day programs require referral through GP or psychiatrist and private health insurance or payment in full. Ramsay Clinic Lakeside are in the process of commencing a Complex PTSD day program group in approximately September 2024.

Inpatient program is streamed for different needs and involves a plan/goal of admission and formulation of treatment plan based on group timetables suited for individual needs and can include general DBT/ ACT/ CBT related topics/groups, mindfulness groups, creative groups, exercise groups, individual therapy, psychiatrist assessment and reviews, discharge and future planning. Admission requires referral from GP or Psychiatrist and private health insurance, Workers compensation, DVA, or self-funding. DBT Day program: 12-month DBT skills only group running 9:00am-2:30pm Monday, Tuesday, or Friday. DBT Modules are 9 weeks long and groups are closed once the module starts (with three groups usually running at the same time). Waitlist is approximately 2-3 months long, dependant on when the next module is open and availability. Individuals are required to have an individual therapist external to the hospital. Individuals can be referred by their GP, can self refer, or be referred by a friend/family. Admission requires referral from GP or Psychiatrist and private health insurance, Workers compensation, DVA, or self-funding. Note: When people are waiting to start the DBT program they occasionally opt to choose to complete another day program that might also be helpful (e.g. anxiety management, depression management).

Private psychiatric hospital with inpatient admission and outpatient clinic (Counselling & Therapy Centre). Includes a number of relevant programs including Wise Mind (DBT), Schema Focused Therapy, Adult trauma plus many others. Inpatient Personality Disorder Program (approx. 3 weeks): Offers DBT as primary therapy option but work closely with you to ensure you get the care that is right for you. Will explore topics including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. Access to a mix of individual and group-based therapies. Referrals and costs: GP referral, Private Health Insurance, Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Work Cover. Self-funded patients are welcome. Offers outpatient 48-week Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) program with new intake every 8 weeks. Patients must be 18 years and over. Aimed at people who have difficulty regulating intense emotions and poor impulse control. Teaches skills in dealing with crises, managing emotions more effectively, and improving interpersonal interactions. The DBT program comprises the skills group component of DBT treatment only, and participants are required to having an existing individual therapist (outside of group). Outpatient clinic also offers other group programs including Anxiety & Depression, Schema Therapy, Adult Trauma programs, and more. About the program: The DBT Day Program is run by a multidisciplinary treatment team. It is skill based and assists patients to tolerate intense feelings and learn to manage self-harming behaviours often associated with borderline personality disorder. DBT combines standard cognitive behavioural techniques for emotion regulation and reality testing with concepts of mindful awareness, distress tolerance and acceptance. DBT can be used to help people who experience symptoms of impulsivity, frequent interpersonal conflict and difficulty with emotional regulation, anger and inability to cope on stressful situations.

Toronto Private Hospital #

Provides specialised inpatient and outpatient treatment for BPD. Inpatient treatment clients must be admitted under the care of a Psychiatrist with admitting rights to Toronto Private. Psychiatrists are well-versed in the assessment and treatment of patients presenting with mental health disorders, as well as exacerbation of pre-existing disorders often associated with BPD. Understanding the disorder is critical in the context of treatment, as it can often be misdiagnosed as another mental illness, particularly as a mood disorder. Crisis survival skills including distraction, self-soothing and improving the moment; as well mindfulness skills including observing, non-judgement and reflection form part of the program. Inpatient treatment is complemented by day programs, which provide continued support for people living with Borderline Personality Disorder to better cope with day-to-day life. Day Program: This group is held on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings 9.00am-12.00pm every week for 24 weeks. A referral from a Psychiatrist or GP is required to access Toronto Therapy Services mental health day programs. If required, a mental health assessment will be arranged prior to commencing a program. The DBT Psychology Clinic is a private outpatient clinic located in Potts Point, Sydney. They offer a comprehensive/ high fidelity Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) treatment program with individual therapy and call coaching. Program includes 3 x 8-week Modules (including Mindfulness and Emotional Regulation, Mindfulness and Distress Tolerance, Mindfulness and Interpersonal Effectiveness). The program is designed to for clients to complete twice for better chances of skill retention and outcomes. Clients can choose to pay per week ($495), per module ($3700), or per round ($10,000) of DBT. Can offer standard 10 Medicare MHCP rebates for individual therapy ($137 following rebate) and 10 group therapy ($30 following rebate). If applicable, clients can claim remaining sessions on private health insurance. Sydney Clinical Psychology #

Private practice which provides both individual therapy and a 20-week DBT group. The service is for adults over 18, however, they offer younger clients adolescent services. Group participants are required to see an individual psychologist if involved with the DBT group (either through their service or externally). The program is run by clinical psychologists and general psychologists trained in DBT. The process of accessing program involves clients contacting the reception, booking an intake assessment with a psychologist (1hr), and being placed on a waitlist for the next available group. The waitlist fluctuates- they typically run 4-5 groups per year, mostly at the beginning and middle of the year, with additional groups scheduled if there is enough demand. The cost is $140 per 2-hour group session, totalling $2800 for the 20-week term. Clients can receive a Medicare rebate for group sessions ($640 back from Medicare Mental Health Care Plan, covering 10 individual and 10 group sessions, with the group rebate at $64 per session).

The Lighthouse Practice #

Offers individual therapy (Dialectical Behaviour therapy, cognitive reprocessing therapy, EMDR and schema therapy) across three locations (one practice in Moorebank and two in Campbelltown) and group DBT. The waitlist for individual therapy fluctuates but is usually approximately 1 month. Practice fee's are on a sliding scale- can bulk bill with mental health care plans, are accredited Victim Services providers, and deliver services under You In Mind (PHN program) and NDIS. The DBT group includes 3 hours of group per week, telephone coaching with a psychologist, and handouts/ resources. Clients must be in the South Western Sydney catchment. The total cost of the DBT group is $2,430 for pre-assessment consults, 1.5 hour assessment, pre-group session, all 10 weeks of group plus phone coaching from 8am till 8pm for the duration of group and workbook with resources. The Resilience Centre #

The Resilience Centre provides individual therapy and a comprehensive DBT Program. As the DBT program runs once a year for almost 6 months (24 weeks). The program is broken down into three x 8-week modules, with a one-week break between each module. Participants are required to attend the 2-hour skills group each week and an individual session with a DBT-trained psychologist from their DBT Team. As the program only runs once per year, if someone misses the intake they will have to wait until the following year. The Psychological Health Centre #

The DBT Solutions program runs a comprehensive DBT Program (including group session, individual therapy, call coaching) continuously throughout the year . There is a process of 2 assessment sessions and 2 - 3 pre-treatment sessions before beginning the program. The service usually have entry points to commence program every 7 - 8 weeks throughout the year. Costs include the weekly individual sessions, weekly group skills training sessions and between session coaching and are payable up front in a single payment of $9,000.00 (this would attract a 5% discount for full payment upfront, $8,550.00) or clients can pay per module. (Emotion Regulation module - 8 weeks $3,600.00; Interpersonal Effectiveness - 6 weeks $2,700.00; Distress Tolerance - 6 weeks $2,700.00). The program is 20-weeks and clients can repeat the program if they decide that would be beneficial.

Strelitzia Consulting Rooms #

Private consulting rooms which offers a range of in-person and telehealth individual therapy appropriate for BPD and complex trauma. They offer a number of therapy orientations, including short- and long- term psychodynamic therapy (a relational therapy which concentrates on relationship difficulties), DBT, ACT, schema therapy and often assist people with BPD/complex trauma who have not responded to short-term experiences of therapy (either due to inappropriate treatment or the treatment type/ duration have not met their needs). This practice provides individual therapy and a low-cost DBT skills group for anyone over 18 years old. Please see attached information about their next DBT skills group program beginning on Thursday 4 July 2024 running from 1pm to 3pm each week. This brief DBT skills group is for people struggling with emotion dysregulation. The in-person program based in Seven Hills, NSW includes one individual orientation session with a psychologist and 7 weekly 2 hour group sessions focusing on mindful living, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Cost: $600 for program payable in 3 instalments of $200, with the first payment made at the individual orientation session. The full $600 fee is payable should the participant withdraw before completing the program. Participants with a Mental Health Treatment Plan may be eligible for a rebate for the orientation session ($93.35) and the group sessions ($23.70 per session). Therefore, the out of pocket expense for the program after rebates is $370.75. The fee is reviewed annually and they will provide an update each year.

Dune Health and Wellbeing #

Provides individual therapy and DBT skills group. The DBT Skills Training Group is an adaption of DBT- ST 10 weeks, integrating skills from the 4 key modules. Individuals 16+ with MHCP are eligible to be considered for the program. Program involves 1 individual initial assessment session (80 mins for new clients to the practice), then 10 group sessions per week that are 120 minutes in duration, and one final individual session (50 mins). It is recommended that participants engage in 5 individual therapy sessions with one of their psychologists whilst attending the DBT group program. Individual sessions are highly encouraged on a fortnightly basis to support implementation of the skills learnt in the group within your particular circumstances. Program appropriate for people with BPD, PTSD and/or self-harm and suicidality. Cost: In addition to the Medicare rebate, clients using a current MHCP are required to pay an out-of-pocket fee for the group of $115 for each 120-minute session which is invoiced in 2 instalments ($575 for the first 5 group sessions and $575 for the second 5 group sessions). The total out of pocket fee for the 10 instructional weeks of the group program is $1150. RO-DBT classes and groups run all year round. Adult courses run from 24 - 30 sessions depending on the program and the teen courses run for 20 lessons. Online Self Paced DBT Course

Dr Yvette Vardy delivers an online self-paced DBT Skills course. The online self-paced DBT course is designed to extend people further than just reading the DBT textbook alone, however, is not a live DBT group/program. There are no prerequisites for the course and it is designed to increase access to DBT. It is strongly encouraged that people engage with an individual therapist while completing the course. The online course comprises 3 modules (distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness) with each module starting with 2 weeks of core mindfulness skills. Each module includes 1 welcome session and 8 weeks of material. Participants complete 1 DBT module at a time and course includes 1.5hr skills training (pre-recorded) video material, handouts/worksheets each week. Each week there is a 1.5 hr live Q and A session (Saturday morning 10:00-11:30am) with a focus on understanding skills and applying them to a situation. This Q and A session is held in webinar format which does not require cameras/microphones to allow for privacy and anonymity. Cost: $120 +GST per session (9 sessions per module) which can be paid as a one-off fee or through a weekly payment plan. Westmead Psychotherapy Program (WPP) for Complex Traumatic Disorders which runs in conjunction with the University of Sydney Master of Medicine (Psychotherapy) and Master of Science in Medicine (Psychotherapy Program).The Westmead Psychotherapy Program is based at the Mental Health Sciences Centre (Building 112 on the Cumberland Hospital Campus). The program provides a range of opportunities for individual psychotherapy, ranging from acute and brief to longer-term interventions. The focus of the program is on the treatment of Mental Disorders that have a strong link to the experience of trauma and/or loss, particularly complex trauma, founded in traumatic experience early in life or relational trauma. Current waitlist for long term therapy is approx 2 years, however, shorter intervention can be offered during this time. Individuals must reside in the catchment area. Emotional Health Clinic and Research Unit (EHCRU)- Cumberland Hospital Clinical Psychology Services #

The Emotional Health Clinic & Research Unit provides clinical psychology services for adults who experience difficulties in relationships, sense of self, emotional dysregulation, and impulsive or self-destructive behaviours. This is often associated with diagnoses or characteristics of personality disorder and/or complex trauma. The Clinic services adults over 18 years living in the WSLHD catchment area. Service is not suitable for people with current difficulties related to psychosis or for those with a significant forensic history or aggressive behaviour. People with challenges related to substance use can be admitted to the program providing they are engaged with a Drug Health program. Referrals: You may be referred to the clinic on completion of the local Gold Card Clinic program, by your local community mental health team within the WSLHD Mental Health Service, or via Drug Health services. You may be required to maintain your communication with these services for the duration of your program with the EHCRU. Self-referrals and referrals from organisations/service providers independent of the WSLHD Mental Health Service are not accepted. Waiting List: The EHCRU does not maintain a waitlist. Generally, consumers can commence a program with the EHCRU within 2-4 weeks of acceptance of their referral. Cost: no cost for consumers with a current Medicare card.

Prince of Wales Hospital- BLIP and DBT Program #

BLIP (Brief Lifeworks Intervention Program): is a brief intervention program that operates of the Gold Card Clinic model (3 sessions and 1 session with family/carer). Patients cant self-refer. Short term intervention crisis service. 
DBT program: if people are in BLIP and its deemed DBT would be appropriate treatment they can self-refer by calling the mental health line and requesting referral to DBT program at Prince of Wales hospital. Offers 2 different DBT groups, must be within the catchment area.
1) Shortened DBT skills group- online 12-week DBT course which summarises all modules. Aimed for people who might not require full program but would benefit from skills. Suitable to those who are "higher functioning" e.g working, studying. 
2) Traditional DBT program (9 months) which runs all 4 modules, 8-weeks per module. Individuals must have an external individual therapist and be seeing them at least once a month. Inclusion/exclusion: Must be in Prince of Wales catchment area, 18 years +, primary difficulty with mood and emotional and dysregulation. Individuals must have individual therapist min monthly. MyStep to Mental Wellbeing (MyStep) offers a range of mental health supports for all ages from health information and early intervention to psychological treatment for mental health issues. HYP (Hollistic Youth Program)  

The HYP program is a program designed for young people (12-25 who need more intensive support and is funded through the PHN.  Referral accepted through Headspace centres (Bankstown, Liverpool, and Campbelltown and ReFrame (Wollondilly and Wingecarribee).
